A five-count indictment was unsealed today in federal court in Brooklyn, New York charging Ilya Balakaev with various charges related to smuggling devices commonly used in counterintelligence operations out of the U.S. to Russia for the benefit of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (“DPRK” or “North Korea”).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) imposed restrictions on seven Iranian drone producers, including on the transfers of foreign-made components to them. These entities are added to the Entity List for contributing to Russia’s military and defense industrial base through the production of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or “drones”) which are being transferred to Russia for use in its war of aggression against Ukraine.
